Whitewater Cooks Together Again topped 2021 Best-Selling Books List from British Columbia Publishers

A book celebrating Kootenay cuisine tops British Columbia’s bestseller list for all of 2021, according to the Read Local BC website.

Whitewater cooks together again (Alicon Holdings) was written by Shelley Adams and features many recipes as well as some great photography.

It is the latest in a series that dates back to when Adams ran the Fresh Tracks Café in the Whitewater family ski resort near Nelson. Back then, skiers and snowboarders often asked him for recipes.

“What this collection of books demonstrates is that cooking great meals doesn’t have to be long or complicated, and you don’t need to be a skilled chef to prepare fabulous, healthy and delicious meals. delicious, “Adams writes on the Whitewater cooks website. “These recipes can be made with ingredients most of us store in our refrigerators and cupboards, and can be put together in no time if you’ve done a little planning and preparation beforehand.”

The second best-selling book in British Columbia in 2021 was A Is for Anemone: A First West Coast Alphabet (Harbor Publishing), by Robert Budd with illustrations by Roy Henry Vickers. It uses memorable images of the west coast to promote early literacy and an appreciation for nature for readers ages one to three.

Number three was British Columbia mushrooms (Royal BC Museum), which is a beautifully photographed guidebook to help hikers identify fungi on their travels through the province. Two mushroom experts, Andy MacKinnon and Kem Luther, offer illuminating descriptions of many species.

British Columbia’s fourth bestseller is a selection of non-fiction writing by late Kamloops-based Ojibwa writer Richard Wagamese. Douglas & McIntyre released Richard Wagamese selected: what comes from the mind, includes an introduction by Drew Hayden Taylor.

Number five on the list and best-selling novel of the year published in British Columbia was A Deadly Lesson: A Lane Winslow Mystery (TouchWood Editions), by Iona Whishaw.
