UWCE will donate books for Read United

(SAVANNAH, Ga.) United Way of the Coastal Empire promotes early childhood literacy and celebrates the importance of reading by donating books to thousands of children across the region as part of Read United the Friday February 25. On this special day, hundreds of volunteers will travel to dozens of area schools to distribute books and read stories to children.

Through this year’s initiative, volunteers will read into classrooms and distribute more than 8,000 books to children in kindergarten through grade 2 at schools in Bryan, Effingham and Liberty counties. Teachers of these classes will also receive a book to add to their class library.

“Early childhood literacy is critical to future success and through this community-wide collaboration, we seek to fill the gaps by putting books into children’s hands and inspiring a love of reading. “said Brynn Grant, President and CEO, United Way of the Coastal Empire. “We are delighted to expand Read United into Chatham County in 2023 and are looking for partners to help us get there.”

This year’s Read United theme is Kindness Matters and the books distributed to students are related to this theme. United Way sincerely thanks all of its volunteers and community partners for making this event possible. Special thanks to the Liberty County Board of Education for funding this important initiative in Liberty County.
