U.S. Embassy Presents 10,000 Books to DIBF

The US Embassy booth at the 2022 Doha International Book Fair (DIBF) has 7,000 books along with 3,000 other resources, an embassy official told the Gulf Times.
“We have a record inventory of over 7,000 books to purchase at discounted prices. Plus, we have another 3,000 free resources for people who want to study and learn more about the United States. In total, we have over 10,000 books at the book fair this year,” said Morgan Cassell, US Diplomat/Press Secretary, US Embassy.
Cassell also revealed that the year 2022 marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Qatar and the United States. “The whole year is exciting for us as we have several events to celebrate this milestone. There will be frequent events throughout the year and many projects are underway to celebrate the occasion,” he said. she declared.
As for attending the book fair, she said it was a celebration of American literature and culture. “Categories of books by renowned American authors include everything from children’s books to bestsellers. We are guest of honor at the Doha International Book Fair as the Qatar-State Year of Culture USA 2021 is coming to an end here in Qatar and the United States,” she continued.
The official said the US stand at the book fair focused on education, literacy and space exploration.
“We have a long history of several successful space explorations in the United States. We really encourage the study of science and technology. Our stand is designed by renowned Arab-American designer Christina Khater, with a futuristic design showing how literacy and learning are key tools for innovation and enabling humanity to reach its highest potential. We are showcasing women’s empowerment, science and technology and the strength of our relationship with Qatar at the event,” Cassell explained.
She said the books on display at the stand range from fiction to biographies and other bestsellers. “We have collections of some of the most renowned American authors, including Asian Americans, Arab Americans, African Americans and others, a broad section of authors that the United States has to offer. We have a truly diverse collection of books. Although all the books are in English, we have books that deal with Arab culture, learning about Islam and several aspects of Arab heritage and traditions,” the official noted.
As for the Qatar-US Year of Culture-2021, the press secretary said the program showed the strength of the relationship between the two countries. She commented, “We introduced Qatar from New York to Los Angles and other cities in the United States. Here in Qatar, we had several events ranging from fashion, music, culture, dining experience, information on education in the United States, among others. We are therefore constantly renewing and revitalizing our ties with Qatar on many fronts. Our relations with Qatar are very strong and this can also be seen at the book fair.
“We are very proud to be the guest of honor at this prestigious event. Language and literacy is something that we hold very important. The values ​​we share with our Qatari partners are language, literacy and education. We’re here to encourage and instill those values ​​among young readers and everyone else,” Cassell added.
