SAWTELL Rotary and Bonville Boambee View Club have teamed up to respond to a call from Lismore Library to help restock after flooding destroyed much of their collection.

Many residents of Lismore and surrounding flood-affected areas will also have lost books and will turn to the library for reading material.

View Club president Lorraine Armstrong heard of the library’s urgent appeal to help with restocking and approached the Rotary Club with the idea of collecting donated books locally and transporting them north.

Gerry De Gabriele, a member of the Rotary Club of Sawtell, told News Of The Area: “Lorraine contacted us to see if the clubs could combine to facilitate helping the library with book donations rather than money, as it would be a practical solution and would engage the community to positively support the people of Lismore.

The library has requested new or nearly new books in the following categories: adult novels, large print books, youth and young adult books, children’s story books, children’s DVDs, puzzles, audio books, parent collection ( non-fiction books on parenting topics) and junior non-fiction books

The appeal will continue through the end of May and donations can be dropped off at Edge Real Estate, 3/29-33 Orlando St, Coffs Harbor during working hours.

Mr De Gabriele said: ‘Please look at your shelves.

“Those books you once read and enjoyed.

“Give them some extra life and bring some joy to the people of Lismore by donating them to the Lismore Library.

“If you don’t have suitable materials to donate, you can donate or buy a new book and donate it or put money directly into the library account.”
