New hardback books teach kids about colors, space and Star Trek — Daily Star Trek News
OCTOBER 7, 2022 – Most parents want to expose their kids to the things they love. My nephew has loved cars since he was born, no doubt under the influence of my brother-in-law, and my niece has just taken up knitting, partly thanks to my mother’s enjoyment of this activity.
Children also occasionally enjoy star trek and my niece loves Sherlock Holmes, both because they’re my interests. Well, book publisher SmartPop has just released a pair of books for younger kids to help them learn about space and colors. And along the way, the hope is that they’ll learn to love star trek, as well. But will it work?
Star Trek: My First Space Book and Star Trek: My First Color Book were released last Tuesday. Both items are of the “hardback” variety, meaning they are made from thick cardboard called “cardboard”, which a young person can handle without destroying it too quickly. This is important because they are made for 0-2 year olds who won’t be careful not to tear the pages and may decide to chew on the edges. Board books aren’t completely indestructible, but they can take some abuse!
Space is written by Dr. Erin Macdonald, whose name may be familiar to you. Macdonald is an astrophysicist, which qualifies her to write a textbook and, some would say, morequalifies her to write a board book. She is also a scientific advisor to modern industry star trek franchise, which qualifies her to write a star trek science book. Using science as a starting point, she leads each show from the writing process through post-production, making sure the sci-fi elements of the franchise don’t get too unbelievable.
Colors is written by Robb Pearlman, another household name. Pearlman is a pop culturalist and author, who has written dozens of books for adults and children, including Having fun with Kirk and Spock, Starfleet is…and the upcoming Young Adult novel Star Trek: Prodigy – Supernovabased on the upcoming video game as well.
