LPD reads to children in the library

LANDRUM––On Thursday morning, officers from the Landrum Police Department gathered at the Landrum Library to read to the children. Books with the Blue is an annual event held by LPD Officers as an opportunity to interact with all types of age groups in the community.
Sergeant Jamey Shehan, school resource officer, says he considered this idea in conjunction with the LPD’s commitment to providing the best law enforcement agency possible in the upstate.
This year at Books with the Blue, an officer asked about 10-20 children in the community to read Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Suess.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this event could not take place last year, making this year the second annual Books with the Blue.
This event involved volunteer officers not only reading to children, but also coloring with them and providing drinks and snacks. LPD officers brought in their new patrol vehicles on Thursday so kids can interact with a police cruiser and ask questions about an officer’s law enforcement duties.
Sergeant Shehan says, “It is my passion to reach the children in our community through positive interactions and meaningful relationships with parents and children in our community. »
Other LPD events include Coffee with a Cop, Breakfast with the Blue, and Annual Litter Pickup.
