Books and magazines: Counterfeiting | Books and reviews

If you’re looking for an engaging, fast-paced, and fun summer read, look no further than Kirsten Chen Counterfeit. Chosen as Reese Witherspoon’s book club selection in June, counterfeit is one of those witty books that make you smile as the story unfolds. Ava Wong is a Stanford-trained attorney on temporary leave to care for her young child. Her world is turned upside down when a former college roommate reenters Ava’s life and draws her into the world of counterfeit luxury handbags. The story is mostly told through Ava’s perspective as she recounts the series of events to a detective. Chen skillfully crafted Ava’s story, reminding readers that all is not as perfect as it seems. The counterfeit bags are a perfect metaphor for Ava’s life. It’s a rule that follows, Stanford-educated lawyer, married to a heart surgeon. From the outside, looking into his life is perfect. Inside, everything is falling apart, she struggles with her son’s behavior, she doesn’t even know if she wants to be a lawyer, and her husband seems out of touch.

This book is a page turner you won’t want to put down. I can’t wait to see what Chen releases next.
