Beyond Books: The Niagara Falls Library Has Much to Offer the Community
“If I can’t do big things, I can do small things in a big way.”
This personal quote, attributed to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., is a testament to how a person can accomplish great things by doing small things. At the library, many small acts of greatness happen every day.
Customers who have shown up have been thrilled with the selection of non-traditional collections available at the library and have let us know. Everything from board games and Nintendo Switch consoles to hotspots and rackets — maybe best saved for later in the year — the list continues. Help with computers, photocopying and other technologies are small things our staff do to make a big difference in the lives of our customers. These are just a few of the ways the Niagara Falls Public Library performs small acts of greatness.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of Scholastic Canada’s partnership with Robert Munsch. To celebrate and pay homage to Canada’s most beloved storyteller, we are offering an exclusive and unique StoryWalk! Join Miss Andrea and her friends at Carolyn Park on Saturday, May 28 to enjoy the story “Zoom!” Keep your eyes peeled along the way to discover hidden picture book characters and win a prize. You can find us (weather permitting) along the Rotary Storywalk Trail from noon to 2 p.m.
Acclaimed author and retirement planning guru Keith McConkey will host a free information session to discuss some of the strategies from his best-selling book “Life Simplified – Protect Your Retirement Income”. This event is not to be missed if you want to learn how to make your money last! Participants will also have the chance to win a free signed copy of the book. This program will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 28 at the Rosberg Gallery, located at the Victoria Avenue branch of the library at 4848 Victoria Ave. Registration is mandatory.
Beginner computers will return for adults this summer. These courses are for those with little or no computer experience to help overcome technology-related discomfort with a positive, hands-on experience. All tools and technology are provided, although participants are encouraged to bring their own devices. Space is limited, so early registration is recommended. Classes will be held at the Victoria Avenue branch from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Thursdays starting June 2.
