10 books to read if you liked Netflix’s Heartstopper

Heart stroke just arrived on Netflix on Friday, April 22 and is Netflix’s latest foray into book adaptations. The book is based on Alice Oseman’s graphic novel series. The series tells the story of two teenagers, Nick and Charlie. What begins as an unlikely friendship quickly turns into something more.

If you liked the new series, you’re probably diving into the graphics, but after that, you might be looking for more books that make the time to Season 2 pass a little faster. Luckily, there are plenty of great books out there that have the same vibes as Heart stroke.

If you haven’t read moon cakes by Suzanne Walker and Wendy Xu, it’s time. It’s a graphic novel like Heart stroke but instead of two teenagers it’s about two teenagers, one is a werewolf and the other is a witch and they fall in love while dealing with dark magic and their past.

And the art is just as cute and fun as the story. Wendy Xu’s art style perfectly shows the emotions of the characters. And it’s beautiful, which is never a bad thing.

This is one of the only books I’ve read that lives up to the kindness of Heart stroke.

Felix forever

Felix forever by Kacen Callender is as touching as Heart stroke and deals with some of the real darkness that lives in the world, Felix tries to figure out who he is, who’s bullying him online, and who to love. It becomes especially difficult when someone posts old pictures of themselves with their name dead at school.

Trying to fight back, Felix makes it his mission to find out who’s doing this to him, but while he’s doing it, he finds love and self-acceptance. While it certainly has some rough times, there are some super cute ones.

You asked for perfection

You asked for perfection by Laura Silverman is about high school student Ariel Stone. He prides himself on being perfect when it comes to school, extracurricular activities, and life in general. But when his grades start to drop, he feels like his world is collapsing around him.

This puts him into overdrive to try and fix things. But then he develops feelings for one of his classmates, Amir, and although he enjoys spending time with him, his stress also increases.

This book shows anxiety so well. You might even feel your heart beating faster at times. But Amir and Ariel’s relationship is just as sweet as Nick and Charlie in Heart stroke.

If you are looking for books like Heart strokewhy not read something by the same author? without love is a YA novel also by Alice Oseman and tells the story of Georgia who has never been in love, never been kissed and never had a crush, but she is sure she will find someone one day.

As she starts college, her romantic plans don’t go well and she must re-examine what she wants and who she is. Not to say too much, Georgia discovers that she is asexual and aromantic. It’s one of the few books that shows someone discovering that they’re asexual and aromantic.

The Prince and the Seamstress

The Prince and the Seamstress by Jen Wang follows Prince Sebastian as he leads a double life. By day he is a prince and by night he puts on dresses and walks around Paris as Lady Crystallia.

This is another graphic novel that couldn’t have been cuter. The relationship between Frances and Sebastian is very sweet and tolerant.

Bloom

Bloom by Kevin Panetta and Savanna Ganucheau tells the story of Ari and Hector. Ari tries to convince his dad to let him quit his job as a baker so he can move to the big city and play with his band and Hector is a guy who likes to cook and wants Ari’s job. A perfect match, right?

But as they cook together, they discover they might just have feelings for each other and maybe Ari doesn’t want to budge after all. But will it still move?

If you love cooking or just like beautiful food illustrations, this is definitely the one you want to read. The cooking scenes are as beautiful as they are cute.

Run with the Lions

Looking for a novel that has the vibe of Heart stroke but it’s a bit more sports oriented? Run with the Lions by Julian Winters is definitely a book you want to check out. The book tells the story of Sebastian Hughes, the star goalie of the Bloomington High School Lions. And it’s his last year so everything should be fine, right?

Well, his former childhood best friend, Emir Shah, shows up for summer training and… it’s awkward, Sebastian doesn’t know if the team can win when someone who hates him is in the game. ‘team.

If you’re looking for a series of graphic novels as heartwarming as Heart stroke but takes you to a fantasy world, you have to read the tea dragon series by Kay O’Neill. Worth it for the art alone. It’s absolutely beautiful!

The first book, The Tea Dragon Society, tells the story of Greta who finds a lost tea dragon in the market. With the help of teahouse owners Heskiel and Erik, she discovers the dying art of caring for tea dragons. She also meets the owners’ ward, Minette, and together they learn how tea dragons can make their lives so much better.

If you feel overwhelmed by the darkness of the world, read these books. They will give you some hope.

You should see me in a crown by Leah Johnson is one of the sweetest queer YA novels of all time. Try not to smile while reading this book. I dare you! How sweetly Heart stroke that is to say, fans of the series (or books) are likely to love this novel.
